    Join a short field trip visiting USD's partner Ryan Bros Coffee (founded by USD alumni) and learn more about their fair trade initiative and innovative business model. Located in Barrio Logan, a historically and culturally rich neighborhood.

    San Diego Airport

    Join a short field trip to the San Diego International Airport to learn about their award-winning approach to sustainability. Explore how SAN balances aviation with environmental stewardship through initiatives like their all-electric shuttle fleet, massive stormwater capture systems, and protection of the endangered California Least Tern.

    Montgomery Middle Garden

    Join us for a short field trip to the Montgomery Middle School Garden! Meet Emalyn Leppard, a Horticultural Therapist and USD alumna, who leads the garden’s initiatives. Learn how this green space serves not just as a source of fresh food, but as a living platform for nutrition education and a peaceful sanctuary for students and families alike.

    Kitchens for Good offers individuals looking to take their lives in a new direction the training and holistic support to secure sustainable employment. In turn, this provides the opportunity for people to find stability and grow in ways they previously had not thought possible.

  • Join a Trip with Outdoor Adventures

     Outdoor Adventures (OA) gives the USD community opportunities to experience outdoor activities that promote personal growth, leadership development, relationship building, and environmental responsibility. With a focus on outdoor recreation, environmental education, leadership, and team building, they offer a variety of outings locally, regionally, and internationally. Many of their trips have a social change element to them. Check them out!

    Day trips

    OA's day trips provide an opportunity to experience the neighborhoods and outdoor spaces that make San Diego the vibrant destination that it is known to be. Day trip activities are beginner-friendly, and transportation is always provided. The trip goals are to provide an introduction to the geology, human history, wildlife, and threats impacting the places visited.

    From backpacking the Pacific Crest Trail to kayaking the Colorado River, these trips are a great opportunity to connect with nature, make new friends, and learn about the challenges our current ecosystems face.
